Rod Strata

FOUNDER Spartan Sports Ohio

Faith is a trust in the knowledge that Jesus Christ provided for the forgiveness of sins and eternal life with God. The spiritual gift of "faith" is distinct from the gifts of "wisdom" and "knowledge."- Apostle Paul

Rodney Strata, a Perry High School graduate, started over 40 games as an offensive guard for THE MICHIGAN STATE SPARTANS from 1977 to 1980, leaving an indelible mark on the program. Hailing from Canton, Ohio, Strata was a four-year starter under the guidance of coaches Darryl Rogers and Muddy Waters.

As a Spartan, Strata was instrumental in securing a share of the Big Ten title in 1978. In a pivotal game against their arch-rivals, the University of Michigan, Strata led the offensive line with unwavering determination, paving the way for a 24-15 victory. That season, the Spartans amassed nearly 2,700 yards on the ground and an equal amount through the air, scoring 32 rushing touchdowns and 20 passing touchdowns.

Strata's achievements were equally remarkable. In 1980, he was elected Team Captain by his teammates, earned first-team All-Big Ten honors, and was named a third-team All-America selection. He also received the team's inaugural "Iron Man Award" for his exceptional strength and conditioning and the Gerald Ford "Up Front Award" for being the best offensive lineman among Michigan universities. Perhaps his most distinguished honor was the "President's Award," bestowed upon the senior lineman who demonstrated the most persistence.

Strata was named the "Best Ever" to wear his number at Michigan State University-
